A Night at the Negros Museum Cafe

The Negros Museum Cafe came to life last Friday. No less than Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr. led the ribbon cutting assisted by the indefatigable president of Negros Museum, Ms. Lyn Gamboa. Art patrons, government officials, artists, tour guides and bloggers came together for this much awaited night.

Gov. Marañon with Gemma and Chef Guido

There’s no doubt, the Negros Museum Cafe will be another addition to the growing coffee shops in Bacolod serving artisan food. The ingredients were sourced locally but with Chef Guido Nijssen, expect a menu with international influence.

Guests took the first bite of Deviled Eggs with choices of four kinds of home-made bread, French Baguette, Whole Wheat Bread, Grey Sesame Bread and Corn Bread.

We were also served with Ham in Grey Sesame Bread and Cheese in French Baguette. Homemade breads have a taste all its own, it’s fragrant and chewy. If you’ve had freshly baked homemade bread, you wouldn’t want to go back to commercial bread.

Iced tea were served and it’s brewed, not instant. Although not for everybody, I love their Iced Fresh Ginger-Lime Drink. It’s refreshing with a zing!

Somebody served our table with little meat balls with curry sauce. I saw Dr. Patiño took a bite and immediately drank his tea. The little balls pack a lot of spices! Then I hear Tita Nelly, Betsy Gazo’s mom, said that people who eat hot and spicy food are said to be capable of overcoming any problem in life. Everybody in our table had to take a bite. I savored mine since I like hot and spicy food, and of course, to prove that I’m made of tougher stuff.

What a night! I haven’t seen my tour guide friends for quite awhile and I really miss hanging out with them. The Negros Museum and its Cafe is now open from 10AM to 8PM every Tuesday to Sunday so working people like me can have a chance to visit the different events at the museum.

You now have no excuse not to visit your museum.
