BacoLaodiat 2011 Officially Open

Bacolod City officially opened the BacoLaodiat 2011 Festival yesterday in welcome of the Chinese Year of the Rabbit.

The grandiose event kicked off with a Grand Parade featuring the colorful floats of the twelve animal zodiacs and lanterns from the participating groups of the Lantern Dance Parade. Dragon and lion dances completed the parade line up.

The parade culminated at the North Capitol Road which is called the Chopsticks Alley. Mayor Bing Leonardia, Cong. Anthony Golez, Jr., Leonito “Diotay” Lopue led the opening of the Chopsticks Alley where an array of Filipino and Chinese foods and non-food items are available for festival goers.

A Chinese cultural show followed at 6:30pm featuring this year’s BacoLaodiat theme song, Chinese dances, and a fashion show of Chinese costumes.

Where have all this people came from? Lacson Street was overcrowding with festival goers even before the concerts started. Enterprising Negrenses are also taking advantage of this opportunity to earn extra income by peddling foods, toys and what-have-you.

It’s just the first day of celebrations and more activities and shows await the festival goers. Don’t miss the revelry, check out the BacoLaodiat 2011 schedule and hope to see you there!
