Panaad Festival 2023 Schedule of Activities

The Panaad Festival will be held on April 17-23, 2023 with the theme “The Promise Renewed.” This will be the first post-pandemic Panaad Festival and as what Governor Eugenio “Bong” Lacson declared during the launching of Panaad Festival 2023, it will be a commemoration of the province’s resilience, perseverance, hope, and faith after what everyone went through after three years of the pandemic and natural calamities such as the flooding in northern Negros Occidental and devastation from Typhoon Odette in the south.

Panaad sa Negros Festival 2023 is the first under the leadership of Governor Eugenio “Bong” Lacson after the cancelation of the multi-awarded tourism festival during the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Unveiled during the launching held last March 14, was the Panaad Festival 2023 logo which was chosen from numerous entries in a province-wide logo-making contest. The festival logo has elements of the sugarcane, the lifeblood of the province, the Provincial Capitol, and the iron dinosaurs or the steam locomotives that were once ever present during milling season.

This year’s festival will also introduce an event called the “Best of Negros Products,” which will feature food and non-food products which won national, regional, and provincial awards and citations.

History of Panaad sa Negros Festival

Panaad sa Negros Festival was conceptualized in 1993 by the Provincial Government and representatives of the private sector to showcase the festivals of each of the then six (6) cities and 26 municipalities of Negros Occidental. Panaad was also seen as a way to showcase the cities and municipalities’ history, cultural heritage, business and industry and tourism potential.

The first Panaad sa Negros Festival was a three day affair which opened in April 30, 1993, a significant day because on this day in 1901 Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental became separate provinces. The festival was held at the Provincial Capitol Park and Lagoon fronting the Provincial Captiol for the first four years. As the festival became bigger each year, a bigger venue was needed. In 1997, the festival was held at the reclaimed area near where BREDCO Port is now located.

The construction of the Panaad Park and Stadium in Mansilingan, Bacolod City for the Palarong Pambansa in 1998 paved the way for the establishment of the Panaad Park as the permanent home of the festival. The park hosts the themed pavilions of the 13 cities and 19 municipalities of Negros Occidental, including the highly urbanized provincial capital, Bacolod City.

The Panaad stadium, which can accommodate around 25,000 spectators in its main grandstand and open bleachers, is the main venue for the cultural presentations. LGU competitions, concerts, and the festival highlight, the search for the “Lin-ay sg Negros”,  the lady who epitomizes the ideal Negrense woman.
