We were supposed to be on a diet. But my friend May and I weren’t able to resist temptation when we pass by Italia Restaurant after our weight loss support group session. Since we heard a lot of good reviews about it from friends, we decided a few calories wouldn’t hurt.
Italia is tucked away in a corner near the Riverside Medical Center. It’s located along San Agustin Extension in what is known as the Arte Kalye. You can’t miss it, just look for the tomato signage and you’ll know you’re in the right place.
The interior was warm and relaxing. We were the only customers when we arrived so we had some time to survey the place.
We took the table near the brick oven so we can watch the staff prepare our pizza. They are using a traditional brick oven that still uses firewood. I guess that is in order to be as authentic Italian as possible, as the name Autentica Cucina Italiana would suggest.
We ordered Pizza Suprema and Pasta Calamari. While waiting for our order, May and I chatted with the waiters who gladly indulged us. Italia has been in existence for several years now and they already have branch in Dumaguete. For those who want wine with their dinner, Italia has a wide variety of imported wines.
Our orders arrived right on time. The Pasta Calamari was superb and the pizza just the right blend of ingredients. Their price range is quite in the expensive side by Bacolod standard. Their servings are mostly good for only one person. However, the taste of their food will not make you regret the extra pesos you shell out compared to eating at a fast food restaurant.
A few days after, May told me she and her hubby went to Italia again and she highly recommended the Bistecca Italia. Knowing May, she wouldn’t visit a restaurant with her husband unless she’s sure it will pass his discriminating taste.
