Negros Occidental Catholic Churches

Catholic churches have both historical and spiritual values to us Filipinos.  Colonial churches are proof of Spain’s influence and provides a wealth of information to the life of our ancestors during the colonial period.

Many of us know that our local delicacies dates back to the time some of the colonial churches were built. Egg whites were used as binders for the coral stones used in building churches. In order for the egg yolks not to be wasted, the women used them in baking pastries.

Only a few of these colonial churches still remain today. The architecture of Catholic churches has also evolved over the years. The only way we can preserve them for the next generation even long before these churches are gone is through photo-documentation.

It is difficult and costly to document all the major Catholic churches in  Negros Occidental. I was lucky to be with a friend who is part of a team photo-documenting Catholic churches in Negros Occidental and the rest of Western Visayas.

Here are the churches I had a chance to photograph. This is not complete so consider this post a work  in progress.

some of these churches look like they are constructed in the 1960s are they really or had they been reconstracted in such a way that they lose their old wold charm and made modern without taking in consideration of the churches history
